I’ll Teach You to Make Money in Your Sleep!

Hey, friend! I know it sounds WAY too crazy to say that I’ll teach you to “make money in your sleep.” But I’m not kidding when I say that I can teach you to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers and help you see sales in your sleep. It’s definitely one of my favorite things to open my email in the morning and see emails from TPT saying, “Congrats! You sold a product on TPT!”

Selling on TPT does not need to be complicated. I’m going to share with you the 3 steps to follow to see sales. Get these steps correct, and you’ll start to see customers buy your products! Maybe you’re a teacher that wants to learn how to start this side business with Teachers Pay Teachers, or maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom like me and want to sell online! Whoever you are, as long as you have experience in your field, you can sell on TPT! Let’s do it!

3 Steps to Sell on Teachers Pay Teachers

Here are the 3 steps you need to follow to sell and make money on Teachers Pay Teachers:

  2. Make a high-quality product
  3. List the product on TPT using relevant keywords in the title and description

Research your Product with Keyword Research

Step #1 is to research your product idea with keyword research. Keywords are phrases that customers will type into the search bar on TPT. Have you ever started searching a phrase on TPT and something similar pops up in the drop-down menu? Those are recommended keywords that TPT recognizes.

Try this: Go to TPT and type “Kindergarten” in the search bar. What comes up in the drop-down menu? I see an option saying, “Kindergarten Morning Work.” That’s a perfect example of a popular keyword phrase. HOWEVER, when you click on that, you get over 200,000 results. Oof. Probably not a keyword I’m going to be able to use. So what do we do? Now type in “Kindergarten Morning Work” and see if any new ideas pop up in the drop-down menu. Right now (since it’s currently April), “Kindergarten Morning Work April” comes up. When you click on that one, only 3,000 results. PERFECT! This is a much better product idea to try to rank and sell for.

Keyword research helps you narrow down your product creation ideas into products that people are actually searching for that have less results. Try this method with the product ideas that you have. Find some keywords that come up with less than 5,000 results.

Make a High-Quality Product

Step #2 is to make a high-quality product. If I choose to make some Kindergarten Morning Work with an April theme, I am going to make sure what I have to offer my customers can rival the competition that I see on TPT. So, take a look at the other products being offered in your niche. How can you make your product stand out? Here are some ideas:

  1. Offer color and black-and-white printing options
  2. Offer differentiated learning opportunities in one product
  3. Use product photography for your cover photos to help the listing stand out
  4. Price your products fairly
  5. Make a preview to show the product a little more clearly to your customers
  6. Create multiple products that can be bundled to help your customers save money (Think Kindergarten Morning Work for the Entire Year Bundle)

List your Product on TPT with Relevant Keywords

When you’ve created an awesome product, it’s time to list it for SALE! Take a deep breath, stuff down the Imposter Syndrome, and LIST IT! I promise you, people want to buy from you. My products have been in over 20,000 classrooms. All because I started with one product. You can do it!

When you go to list your product, you need to use those keywords you researched. You’ll add these phrases to your title and description. That’s how to search algorithm will know to show your product to the customers searching those terms. For example, my title might be “Kindergarten Morning Work for April with Math and Reading Review.” I will use all of those phrases when I write my description too. Don’t over-do it but make sure the phrase you are really trying to target comes up in the first two sentences of your description. Then use relevant vocabulary and other keywords to continue your description.

That’s it! Follow these 3 steps to start seeing those “Congrats! You sold a product on TPT!” emails <3
