Classroom management strategy: partner pairing cards

In today’s blog post, I am sharing my favorite classroom management strategy and 5 ways that you can incorporate it into your classroom! Huge plus to this strategy: students love it! It gets them moving, out of their seats, and interacting with each other. Also, the printable set for this strategy is AS CUTE AS CAN BE! So I would reach for it over and over again!

My Favorite Classroom Management Strategy

My favorite classroom management strategy that you can grab and implement Day 1 in your classroom is: Partner Pairing Cards! These cards work by assigning a food and a partner food to each student. For example, a student might grab the picture of the bacon and need to find their partner: the egg. No guessing is needed: each card shows what partner the student should be looking for! Let’s talk about 5 different ways you can incorporate these partner cards into your daily classroom management routine.

Using This Classroom Management Strategy

Morning Meeting and Classroom Community: It is easy to run out of ideas for morning meeting when you hold one every day! Incorporate these partner pairing cards to quickly break students into groups and pairs for a morning activity. Students will enjoy finding their partner, and you will love giving them a chance to interact with classmates they might not normally work with! This will help you build you classroom community.

Discussion Groups: In the packet of partner pairing cards, I have also included a set to break students into groups of four. Students are each given a card and have to find the other three members of their groups. This classroom management strategy will help you quickly set up class discussion groups. Maybe you read a new book to the class and you would like the students to discuss how the book relates to their own lives. Hand out these cards and let them get to talking!

Brain Breaks: Sometimes you just need a reason to get kids moving! Use these partner paring cards to quickly give each student a partner and pick a fun brain break for them to do together! Ask them to show each other their favorite dance move! Have them read the Word Wall together in a monster voice! Play Mirror! The ideas are endless!

Seating Arrangements: Need to move students around? Create new desk groups or seating arrangements with these cards. This is why I think these cards are so helpful for classroom management. They are quick, fun, and engaging!

Doing a STEM activity and want students to work with classmates they might not normally work with? Use these cards to randomly assign them a group! Students enjoy changing things up and spending time with new friends! I hope you will check out the packet I have created. All images in this post are linked to the packet.
