Activities for CVC words have always been something I have reached for in the classroom. My teaching career started in Kindergarten. Then I moved to First Grade after my first year. I taught the lowest readers in First Grade and spent a lot of time teaching foundational skills such as short vowels and CVC words.
I have found that making sure I had fantastic short vowel reading centers and CVC activities gave my students the extra practice and review that they needed when they were not at my teacher table. There is also a FREE CVC activity in this post, so please keep reading!
CVC Words Activity Bundle
I have created a CVC words activity bundle (covering all short vowels) packed with over 200 pages of reading centers. My “CVC Write the Room” comes with cards to place around the classroom. Students will find the cards, look at the picture, sound out the word, and write it on one of the included recording sheets. Differentiated recording sheets are included.
My packet of CVC activities also includes a “CVC Read the Room,” with which students will have a recording sheet full of black and white CVC pictures. The word cards are placed around the classroom and the student has to read the word before coloring the correct picture! I love that both of these activities get students moving around the classroom.
