Setting Up Your Math Block

Kindergarten Math Worksheet

Our school district allotted 75 minutes for math. We would include three math rotations and a number talk into this time. Students would rotate between meeting with the teacher, using their iPad, and completing a math center or station. This was consistent in our Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade classrooms. I would prepare 5 math centers a week, and students would complete one a day. I only ever had 3 centers out at a time, with about 2 kids at each during their rotation. The first week of school was important in introducing these procedures to the class in a simple way.

First Week of School Math Centers

During the first week of school, I would teach my students how to rotate between centers, how to use centers, how to clean up my centers, and how to work with a partner at a math center. It is so important to GO SLOW while teaching these procedures that first week. This is why I created a packet of math activities that have easy to follow directions! Kindergarten and First Grade Students will love these back to school math centers. Click on any picture to grab the set.

I love to incorporate centers that only need a few added materials, and have easy to remember directions! The bright and fun colors are also loved by the young students. As the year progresses, you can continue to use math centers with similar instructions that cover different content and standards! You will cut down on the time you need to introduce your new math centers each week by using activities with similar instructions.

Dice and spinners are a great introduction to math manipulatives that students might encounter in their math stations. Use these no prep math activities to introduce them! My math activity packet has so many print and go worksheets to choose from.
