Hey, friend. I am so excited that you stumbled upon this blog post today. I’m sitting down with an iced coffee and thinking of 5 ways to make sure your products on Teachers Pay Teachers SELL and make you some extra money as a teacher. You want customers finding your products, deciding they are worthy of spending some money on, adding to cart, and buying. You want to hear cha-chings! I get it. So how do we do that?
Five Ways to Make Your Teacher Resources Sell
Here’s the five ways I’m sharing to make your teacher resources sell on TPT and make money:
- Solve a problem
- Over-explain
- Make it top quality
- Use SEO for your listing
- Revisit the data
Solve a Problem
So, you’ve started a teacher seller business to make some extra money online. AWESOME! But you get a little stuck with what exactly to make to sell. And obviously, no products, no money made. So, what do you make? You make products that solve problems. What problems do you have in the classroom today? And how do you solve them? Are your students struggling with their multiplication facts and you’ve created some extra practice for them? Yay! Someone out there on Teachers Pay Teachers has the same problem as you and needs your solution. They’re typing “multiplication practice” into their search bar, and are buying from teacher sellers like you every day!
When you want to make money on Teachers Pay Teachers, you need to solve someone’s problem. Start with the problems you are already solving every day in your own classroom. Design your products from there.
Over-explain Your Products
Here’s something I’ve had to learn the hard way since starting my TPT journey. You need to over-explain your products in the product descriptions. Make it very clear to your customers what you are selling, how they can use it, and why they need it from you. A few sentences saying “You’ll love these worksheets” will not outsell a product with a more thought-out product description. Making money in the online teacher world will depend on teachers finding your product and then being convinced it’s better than someone else’s.
Make Top Quality Products
When designing your product, follow the correct procedures to make sure the images, fonts, and other elements are clear and will print nicely. Your bestselling products should not print blurry or have text boxes that change when downloaded. Get comfortable with the flattening process in PowerPoint or Canva. You want your work to be secured and protected, but most importantly, you do not want disappointed customers that buy your product, and it looks differently than the thumbnails suggest. High quality cover photos and thumbnails will also help to move the needle in making money online for yourself. Use clear text and images of your product when designing your listing photos.
Use SEO For Your Listing
SEO is going to be your new best friend. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. TPT has their very own search engine. You use it all the time when looking for products. You want that search bar to work for you. You’ll do this by using keywords in your title and in your product descriptions. Keywords are phrases that are commonly search on TPT or Google or other places to do searches. “Math Games Kindergarten” is a keyword phrase. “First Grade Morning Meeting Activities” is another example. Type both of these phrases into the TPT search bar to get results. You want to target keywords that don’t have an overwhelming number of results (competition). Do some research when planning your products. Type some ideas into the search bar and see what suggestions come up. Find some suggestions with 5,000 or less results. Use those keyword phrases in your titles and descriptions.
Revisit the Data
After you’ve listed some products, you’ll want to track their views and sales. You’ll also need to search keywords you are trying to trend for and see if your product hit somewhere on the first 3 pages. Tweak titles and descriptions as needed to see what helps. Consider marketing your product on social media! Making money online as a teacher seller doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming. I want to help you find your groove and start hearing those cha-chings!
